Adult autism assessment online with a psychologist

Over several online sessions, a psychologist looks at how you communicate, connect and cope. You finish with a written report and a plan you agree together.

How autism can show up in adult life

Autism is a different way of communicating, sensing and taking in the world. Many autistic adults, often women, reach adult life without an assessment. Many learn to mask their traits to fit in, and it can wear them out.

An adult autism assessment looks at how you communicate, connect and process the world, now and in childhood. It may or may not lead to an autism diagnosis. Either way, you leave with a written report and a next-step plan.

Adults who ask about autism often describe

  • Socialising that drains you
  • Strong reactions to noise
  • Needing routines to cope
  • Deep and focused interests
  • Missing unwritten social rules
  • Masking to fit in

How the assessment works

Your assessment takes place over several sessions by video or phone. Every step ends with your next one. You know the total fee from the start.

    Book online

Book online. We aim to reply within one business day, then send your fee and session times in writing.

  2. 02

    Intake session

You talk about what you have noticed and why you are asking now. You also tell us what helps you feel at ease.

  3. 03

    Questionnaires

You complete autism questionnaires in your own time. Masking can lower scores, so they are only one part of the picture.

  4. 04

    Developmental history

Your psychologist asks about your early years. With your consent, someone who knew you as a child can add what they remember.

  5. 05

    Diagnostic interview

A structured interview looks at communication, social connection, routines and senses. It can be split across shorter sessions.

  6. 06

    Report and feedback

In a final session you go through the written report together. You agree what comes next and keep the report.

Some people need more sessions than others. Your total fee does not change.

Making the sessions work for you

Tell your psychologist what helps, at intake or at any time. Changes like these do not affect your fee.

Something else would help? Send us a question. We aim to reply within one business day.

  • Breaks when you need them

Pause at any point, or split a long interview into shorter sessions on different days.

  • Questions to read first

Ask for questions in writing before a session, and answer in writing if that suits you.

  • Your space, your way

Join from a room that feels comfortable. Dim the lights, use headphones or keep a fidget nearby.

  • Someone with you

With your consent, a partner, friend or family member can join part of a session.

Assessing autism and ADHD together

Autism and ADHD often appear together, and some traits look alike. If you see yourself in both, one combined assessment covers each.

At intake, your psychologist helps you decide whether to look at autism alone or both. Both together cost $2,490 in total.

With a combined assessment, you get

  • One intake for both
  • A single psychologist throughout
  • One report for both
  • One shared feedback session

Both assessments together $2,490 in total, confirmed in writing before you book

What a diagnosis can help with

Many adults use their report to understand themselves and explain their needs to others. You decide who sees it and when.

A diagnosis can support a request for changes at work or study under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Autism itself is not treated with medication. The NDIS decides its own access, and a report alone does not secure it.

Your plan may include

  • Ways to manage sensory load
  • Changes at work or study
  • Therapy for stress or burnout
  • Connecting with autistic-led groups
  • A referral to another service
  • No further care right now

Adult autism assessment questions

Still unsure? See all FAQs or send a question.

What if I am not sure I am autistic?

You do not need to be sure before you book. Many adults ask because something has never quite fit. The assessment is how you find out, and it may or may not lead to a diagnosis.

What if I have no school reports or no parent to ask?

You can still have an assessment. Your psychologist can use your own memories, a sibling or long-time friend, or old photos and letters. They explain the options at intake.

Can my assessment cover ADHD as well?

Yes. Choose the combined assessment and both are looked at in one process, with one report. It costs $2,490 in total. You can also decide at intake.

Will a diagnosis give me access to the NDIS?

Not on its own. The NDIS makes its own decisions and often asks for more evidence. Your report can form part of an application, and your psychologist can explain what it covers.

I was diagnosed years ago. Can I be reassessed?

Yes. Some adults were diagnosed under older criteria, such as Asperger's, and want an up-to-date report. Tell us when you book and share your earlier report if you have it.

How much does an adult autism assessment cost?

The total fee is $2,090. It covers every session, the report and your next-step plan. A combined ADHD and autism assessment is $2,490. Medicare rebates do not apply.

Can I do the whole assessment online?

Yes. Each session runs live by video or phone, so you can join from home. Your psychologist tells you if any part works better by video. If an in-person assessment would suit you better, they tell you why and what your options are.
