Adult ADHD assessment online with a psychologist

A psychologist assesses you over several online sessions. At the end, you receive a written report and an agreed plan for your next step.

How ADHD can show up in adult life

ADHD affects attention, organisation and impulse control. In adults it can look like missed deadlines or a restless mind. Many adults, often women, learn to mask it. They work hard to keep up, so others see someone who copes.

An adult ADHD assessment looks at how you focus, organise and cope, now and in childhood. It may or may not lead to an ADHD diagnosis. Either way, it ends with a written report and a next-step plan.

Adults who ask about ADHD often describe

  • Focus that drifts away
  • Tasks started, rarely finished
  • Losing track of time
  • A restless, busy mind
  • Snap decisions you regret
  • Masking to keep up

How the assessment works

The assessment runs over several sessions. Every step ends with your next one. Your fee is set before you start.

    Book online

Book online. We aim to reply within one business day. Your fee and session times come in writing.

  2. 02

    First session

You meet your psychologist online and talk about what you have noticed. You also fill in standard questionnaires.

  3. 03

    Your history

Interviews cover your childhood, schooling, work and relationships. Your psychologist asks how things show up day to day.

  4. 04

    Another view

With your consent, someone close to you shares what they notice. This could be a parent or partner.

  5. 05

    Written report

Your psychologist brings everything together in a written report. It explains what they found and what they recommend.

  6. 06

    Next-step plan

You go through the report together and agree your next step. You keep the report and the plan.

How many sessions you need depends on your history. The total fee stays the same.

When ADHD and autism are assessed together

ADHD and autism can occur together, and some traits overlap. If you notice signs of both, a combined assessment looks at both in one process.

Your psychologist looks at what you share in your first session. Together, you agree whether one assessment or both suits you. A combined assessment costs $2,490 in total.

A combined assessment gives you

  • One set of sessions
  • The same psychologist throughout
  • One report covering both
  • A single next-step plan

Both assessments together $2,490 in total, confirmed in writing before you book

What you can do after your report

Whatever the report finds, you leave with a written plan for what comes next. You choose which step to take.

Psychologists do not prescribe. You can take your report to your GP or a psychiatrist. They may carry out their own assessment. They decide whether any treatment is clinically appropriate.

Your plan may include

  • Strategies for focus and routines
  • Sessions with an ADHD coach
  • Therapy for stress or mood
  • Seeing your GP or psychiatrist
  • A referral to another service
  • No further care right now

  • School reports from your childhood

Report cards or teacher comments give context about childhood. They help but are not essential.

  • Someone who knows you well

With your consent, a parent, partner or close friend may share what they have noticed.

  • Any earlier reports or assessments

Share any earlier psychological, medical or learning assessments. Only share what you are comfortable with.

  • A private space to talk

A steady internet connection and a quiet room where no one will interrupt your session.

Adult ADHD assessment questions

Still unsure? See all FAQs or send a question.

Do I need a referral for the assessment?

No. You can book it yourself. Medicare rebates do not apply to the assessment. A referral from your GP does not change the $1,190 fee.

Can I be assessed for ADHD and autism together?

Yes. A combined assessment looks at both in one process, with one report and one plan. The total fee is $2,490. Your psychologist helps you decide if it suits you.

Can my psychologist prescribe treatment after the assessment?

No. Psychologists do not prescribe. You can take your report to your GP or a psychiatrist. They may carry out their own assessment. They then decide whether any treatment is clinically appropriate.

What if the assessment does not find ADHD?

Your report explains what the assessment found, including other possible causes such as anxiety, sleep or autism. You still get a next-step plan. It may include therapy or coaching.

Do I need someone who knows me well?

It helps, and it needs your consent. A parent, partner or close friend may share what they have noticed. If no one can, tell your psychologist and they will explain the other options.

Can I do the whole assessment online?

Yes. Every session runs live by video or phone. Your psychologist tells you if any part works better by video. If an in-person assessment would suit you better, they explain why and set out your other options.

How much does an adult ADHD assessment cost?

The total fee is $1,190. It covers every session, the report and your next-step plan. Medicare rebates do not apply. You can pay by card or with Afterpay.
